December is moving along very quickly. We only have two weeks of school left before the Winter Break. The last day of school is Friday, December 20th and school will start again on Monday, January 6th.

It was great to see that many families were able to connect with Carson Grove educators over the past week to celebrate student successes and plan for next steps. Wow! It’s basically December already! We have a special month ahead filled with many learning opportunities and fun, memorable experiences. The team at Carson Grove is also really looking forward to meeting you for parent-teacher interviews this coming Thursday and Friday!

This Friday, students and staff are encouraged to wear their pyjamas or cozy clothes to school as it is a spirit day!

The end of fall / beginning of winter weather is definitely here! Please be sure that your child comes to school ready to play outdoors. The school does have some winter clothes for students to use. Please have your child come to the office if they ever need outdoor clothing. Indoor shoes are still also very important at this time of the year to help keep the school clean!

We had another great week at Carson Grove. The cold and then very warm weather made knowing what to wear to school a bit of a challenge. This past week was all about wearing lots of layers! On the November 8th PA Day, school staff learned a lot about language and math instruction plus ways to support student mental health. Everyone is looking forward to being able to apply these skills in our classrooms!

Last week was another amazing week at Carson Grove. Students had a great time with Halloween and Black and Orange Spirit Day. The mix of warm and then very cold weather was a big reminder about being sure to wear warm clothes to school. Please be sure to send your child with a hat, gloves or mittens, coat, and boots. If you need any cold weather items, we still have a fairly good supply at school. Please reach out to the school office and we can help your child with cold weather clothes.

We had a wonderful week at Carson Grove. Photography students from Ottawa Technical Secondary School (OTSS) visited Carson Grove on Tuesday to take class and student photos. It will take a month or two for the prints to be ready. The OTSS students will also return to take individual photos for any students who were away on Photo Day. Please stay tuned. We will share the date once we hear back from the photographers.

Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of October 21st We had a great week at school! It was quite cold some days. On cold days, please make sure that your child comes to school ready to go outside with a coat, hat, mittens, and shoes or boots with closed toes. The office does have some cold weather clothing available. Please let us know if your child needs some to use. This coming week will be warm again, but the cold weather will be back soon!

We have now been back at school for a well over a month. It’s amazing to see how well our students have done with the new routines. Many of them are experts! Way to go! Students who moved to new classes this week are also settling in nicely. Our students do a wonderful job when welcoming other students who join their classes for the first time!

All Day Wednesday, October 9th Gently used clothes are available in the gym on Wednesday from 8:30am to 6:30pm. Families can take home what they need for free.

Carson Grove marked the National Day (and Week) for Truth and Reconciliation this week. Many students and staff wore orange on Monday to show their commitment to the ongoing learning around the impact of the residential school system.

It was a busy week at Carson Grove. Our Terry Fox Walk and Run was a big success. During the assembly students and staff had the opportunity to hear from Terry Fox’s niece, Kirsten Fox, who joined the school virtually. So far, Carson Grove has raised about $300 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Way to go! Thank you for your generous support!

We had another great week of school at Carson Grove! It is great to see how excited everyone is becoming to participate in the Terry Fox assembly and walk this coming week. Part of that excitement is building because of the grade 3 to 5 cross country running team practices at recess. Many of our students are looking forward to participating in the regional cross country meet on October 10th.

We had another great week at Carson Grove. Students and staff are settling into routines nicely. Everyone is doing a great job being kind and welcoming to all as the year gets started. Students have really enjoyed playing with the new recess sports equipment that was purchased in the spring with the support of our school council!

Hello Carson Grove Families, This afternoon, students and staff followed our fire alarm evacuation procedure after the fire alarms went off in our school. The alarm was set off accidentally. We were prepared for this possibility and there was no fire or danger to anyone in the school.

Oumnia Bekhti a registered dental hygienist (RDH) with Ottawa Public Health will provide dental screening on October 1st and 2nd, 2024* for students in JK, SK, Grade 2, Grade 4 and some follow-ups as needed. If your child’s grade is not selected, but you wish for the dental hygienist to see him/her, please advise the school. (* Some date(s) may be subject to change)

Our first four days of school were great! Students are doing well as they learn the routines at school and make friends. Everyone has been very welcoming of new students and staff members. The media permission, technology use, breakfast program, and peanut allergy forms that were sent home this week have been coming back quickly. Thank you for your support! Please look for the personal information verification forms to be sent home with your child soon.
