Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of Nov. 6th

Last week was another amazing week at Carson Grove.  Students had a great time with Halloween and Black and Orange Spirit Day.  The very cold and, at times, snowy weather was a big reminder about being sure to wear warm clothes to school.  Please be sure to send your child with a hat, gloves or mittens, coat, boots, and snow pants.  If you need any cold-weather items, we still have a fairly good supply at school. Please reach out to the school office and we can help your child with cold-weather clothes that they can keep.

Carson Grove ES Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday, November 10th at 10:30 am

This year, we are excited to welcome families and community members back to Carson Grove ES for our Remembrance Day ceremony starting at 10:30 am on Friday, November 10th.  Grade 1 to 5 students will be participating in the ceremony in the gym.  Our kindergarten students will be doing Remembrance Day activities in the classroom throughout the day on their own.

Before and After School Care Family Survey - Closes Nov. 15th

The Carson Grove Elementary School Council has been asking questions about childcare options for families at Carson Grove.  To help with possible plans for the future, the OCDSB’s Early Learning Department invites you to complete a quick survey before Wednesday, November 15th.  The survey is now open.  Please click here to complete the survey.

Please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Transportation Update

If you are at a bus stop where more than one Carson Grove bus stops, please always only put your child on your bus.  For insurance and safety reasons, students cannot ride on a different Carson Grove bus.  Many of the buses are nearly full and placing extra students on the wrong bus is dangerous and cannot happen.  Thank you for your support!

Please arrive at the bus stops 5 minutes before your scheduled pick-up or drop-off times.  The buses are not able to wait for extended periods at stops.

While we hope the buses will be running regularly now, it's still a good idea to sign up for updates about late buses and cancellations through OSTA's Parent Portal.  Click here to access the portal.  You can also check the route cancellations and delays yourself each morning by clicking here.

Happy Diwali

Some Carson Grove families and staff will celebrate Diwali on Sunday, November 12th.  If your family is celebrating, may the festival of lights light up your home with happiness, laughter, prosperity, and health.  A very Happy Diwali to you and your family!

Treaties Recognition Week

In 2016, Ontario passed legislation declaring the first week of November as Treaties Recognition Week.  It’s being recognized from November 6th to 11th this year.  This annual time honours the importance of treaties and helps students and residents of Ontario learn more about treaty rights and relationships. By learning more about our collective treaty rights and obligations, we can create greater understanding and nurture these relationships.

Each year, students learn why treaties matter to all Ontarians. This year, Indigenous Elders' and knowledge keepers’ video stories are being shared in schools across the province.
