Carson Grove ES News - Week of April 29th

Monday, April 22nd was Earth Day at Carson Grove.  Classes learned about being kind to the planet and took part in a number of activities, including school yard clean up and, in some cases, an electricity conservation hour.  Ms. Jenny’s class had a great time on their field trip to Parliament Hill and our grade 5s attended an amazing play at Henry Munro MS.  We also had a lot of fun during Friday’s Hat Spirit Day!  It was a fantastic week at Carson Grove!

Friday, May 3rd is One Sight - Glasses Fitting Day

Approximately 6 weeks ago, the Education Foundation of Ottawa Eyes to As vision care program completed vision screening for Carson Grove students to identify possible vision concerns.  Any students who were identified as having potential vision concerns received a letter and were encouraged to visit an eye doctor (optometrist) for an eye exam.

After that exam, if you have a prescription from an eye doctor, please notify the school IMMEDIATELY and One Sight will arrange for an eyeglass fitting. Glasses will be provided at no charge to you.

This Friday (May 3rd) is eyeglass fitting day!  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Carson Grove main office, or email [email protected].

SAVE the DATE: May 16th - Carson Grove ES Community Celebration and Potluck

We will be having a community party from 4:30 to 6:30pm on Thursday, May 16th.  There will be a potluck meal, games, and activities for the whole family.  Buses from the Pineview and Donald St. areas will be available.  Stay tuned for more information!

Elementary Program Review

The OCDSB has launched a consultation about our elementary program structure. The review is comprehensive and covers all six of our elementary program areas, along with special education and supports for multilingual learners. It is important to note that there are no predetermined outcomes, which is why our consultation is important and why we want to hear the perspectives of students, parents/caregivers and staff regarding their experiences and how we approach education in the future. Using this information, we will then prepare potential model(s) for consideration moving forward.

You can learn more and share your feedback on Engage OCDSB or attend an upcoming in-person community meeting. Trustee zone meetings will take place on May 13th, 22nd, and 29th. Details on locations will be shared next week.

Joke or Riddle of the Day!

A “Joke or Riddle of the Day'' is featured daily on the morning announcements.  There are two ways to share a possible joke/riddle of the day: Students will be able to pass along jokes/riddles at school in class using a Chromebook; or, they can suggest one with help from home by clicking here and completing a quick Google Form.  Based on the overwhelming response levels in the past, not all jokes/riddles are used during the announcements.  We do our best to find ones that match the time of the year and also try to make selections from a variety of classes.
