Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of Feb. 5th

We had another great week at Carson Grove.  A number of families came to school on Monday to take advantage of the free clothing store.  Please remember that the school almost always has some winter outerwear and other clothes available. Call the school to let us know if you ever need anything and we’ll do our best to help.

Thank you for the support to make Pizza Day happen this past week.  Students really enjoyed their pizza.  We were able to provide a slice to all students who wanted one!

It was also great to see families out at the kindergarten information evening along with members of the kindergarten team.  There’s still time to register students for kindergarten, if you have not yet had the chance.

Register for Kindergarten

Families with a child who will be four years old by December 31, 2024 can visit the OCDSB website to register them for Kindergarten.  You can also come to Carson Grove between 9:30am and 3:30pm daily to register in person.

Cross-Boundary Transfer Period (for a Possible September 2024 Transfer)

The transfer application period for elementary and secondary students runs from January 29th to February 9th, 2024. Learn more on the OCDSB website.

Middle French Immersion Registration Period, February 5th to 9th, 2024

Once your child has completed the grade 3 English/Core French Program at Carson Grove ES, you can register them for the OCDSB’s Middle French Immersion Program at Queen Elizabeth PS. The registration period for Middle French Immersion is open from Monday, February 5th to Friday, February 9th 2024. Learn more on the OCDSB website. You can also call Queen Elizabeth PS for more information or to arrange a tour (by appointment) at 613-746-3246 ext 0 or email [email protected].

Black History Month at the OCDSB

February is Black History Month in Canada, a time to celebrate Black culture and history and applaud the many achievements and significant contributions of Black Canadians. While the realities of people of African descent must be reflected in school experiences all year long, the month of February provides a special time for focused reflection on the lived experiences of Black people, past and present. Learn more about Black History Month 2024 at the OCDSB.

Student Photo Update

As you likely remember from the fall, Ottawa Technical Secondary School (OTSS) partnered with us to take our school photos.  OTSS students came to Carson Grove on December 5th to take student photos.  They have edited the photos and we are in the process of sending the files to print on photo paper.  A page of prints and a class photo will be available at no charge for all students near the end of February.  We are also arranging a make-up photo day for individual photos of students who were not able to attend the December photo day.  Please stay tuned for more information coming soon!

Joke or Riddle of the Day!

A “Joke or Riddle of the Day'' is featured daily on the morning announcements.  There are two ways to share a possible joke/riddle of the day: Students will be able to pass along jokes/riddles at school in class using a Chromebook; or, they can suggest one with help from home by clicking here and completing a quick Google Form.  Based on the overwhelming response levels in the past, not all jokes/riddles are used during the announcements.  We do our best to find ones that match the time of the year and also try to make selections from a variety of classes.
