Carson Grove ES News - Week of October 16th

We have now been back at school for a well over a month.  It’s amazing to see how well our students have done with the new routines.  Many of them are experts!  Way to go!

It was nice to see so many families out for the Meet the Staff evening last Wednesday.  Thank you again to Ottawa City Councilor Tim Tierney and his team for the hot dog BBQ!  There are a lot of smiles and bucket loads of ketchup used!

Congratulations to our Junior Soccer teams who represented Carson Grove very well at last week’s regional tournaments!  A big thank you to Ms. Wade, Mr. Thomas, Ms. Langdon, and the community volunteers who supported the team on Wednesday!

Responding to Global Challenges Which May Impact Our Community

As a staff, our thoughts and well wishes are with all of our community members who may have been impacted by the recent tragic global situations with the earthquakes in Afghanistan and the conflict in the Israel-Gaza region.

Carson Grove staff will continue to focus on ensuring that students and staff feel safe, respected, and comfortable at school.  We understand that more may be needed.  If this is the case, please reach out to the school if your child(ren) need(s) any additional support.

Fire Drills and Lockdown Practice

As a part of our routines to prepare for an emergency, we will be holding three fire drills and a lockdown practice in the coming two weeks.  Teachers will review the steps with students to help them get ready for the drills.

Halloween / Wear Black and Orange Day at Carson Grove - Tuesday, October 31st
Here is how we’re celebrating Halloween / Black and Orange Spirit Day at Carson Grove:

  • Students should come to school wearing their costumes.
  •  Keep costumes simple and be sure that they can be taken on and off independently. For example, the one piece jumpsuit-style costumes are very challenging for students to remove when going to the washroom, especially for our youngest students.

  •  Instead of wearing a costume, wear orange and/or black if a costume is “too much for school” or if your family does not dress in costumes for Halloween

  •   Incorporate daily use face masks into costume designs

  • Leave extra costume accessories at home.  Items that need to be held in a hand or worn on heads, including full masks, are a bit too much for school.

  • As a Kindergarten to grade 5 school, we ask that very scary costumes or makeup should only be worn at home in the evening.

  • Be allergy aware.  Please do not send in class treats or goody bags for classmates.  The gesture is appreciated, but these items from home are not permitted at school.

Please contact the office or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or need some clarification.
