Now that spring weather has arrived, proper clothing (including splash pants, rubber boots, and light coats) is really important. Dressing in layers and sending students to school with some extra clothes/socks (if your child is the adventurous type when it comes to puddles and mud) are keys to students feeling comfortable in and out of school. On very sunny, warm days, hats, sunglasses, and a layer of sunscreen (ideally applied at home, for now) are also good ideas. May 16th SAVE the DATE!

This past week marked the 51st anniversary of Carson Grove’s opening. We celebrated with Carson Grover Day and an assembly where we sang happy birthday to the school along with the school song. A grade 5 student also presented a slideshow all about our school. It was a great day to show our school spirit!

We are pleased to invite students, families and staff in Orléans West- Innes/Beacon Hill-Cyrville (Zone 12) for an informative and engaging in-person Community Connection on April 18, 2024, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Gloucester High School.

We hope that you had a safe, restful, and happy March Break week! It’s incredible to think that there’s only about three and a half months left of school before the summer holidays. While this past week was quite chilly, students had a great time running and playing outside using the recess equipment that our school council purchased at the end of last year. Everyone is looking forward to some warmer weather in the coming weeks.

SafeArrival is a system for managing student absences. Families can report absences in advance using a mobile app, website, or toll-free phone line. These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our school’s Multicultural Liaison Officers (MLOs) support newcomer students and families with settlement services, navigating the school system, language interpretation, and more.

We had a wonderful week at Carson Grove. It was nice to be outside with such lovely weather. Students really enjoyed using recess equipment and playing with their friends in the sun. Please remember to send students to school with the right clothing and footwear for the season. Splash pants and rubber boots are a good idea at this time of the year. Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of March 4th It was another great week at Carson Grove! Students did a very good job at recess avoiding the ice on the fields. It was another great week at Carson Grove with a lot of excitement! Red, Pink, and White Spirit Day and Candy Grams were highlights of the week. Families also received an email to access their children’s report cards. Please contact the school office if you have any issues when trying to open the file. On Monday, February 12th, we all enjoyed the “Celebrate Africa” performance of drumming, dance, and storytelling by MASC artists MASABO. This event was funded by the OCDSB and the Harry P. Ward foundation subsidy program. Thank you to Kids Up Front Ottawa for supporting the Grade 4 and 5 Floor Hockey Club’s trip to see the Senators play the Ducks on Thursday, February 15th. They had an amazing time!

We had another great week at Carson Grove. A number of families came to school on Monday to take advantage of the free clothing store. Please remember that the school almost always has some winter outerwear and other clothes available. Call the school to let us know if you ever need anything and we’ll do our best to help. Thank you for the support to make Pizza Day happen this past week. Students really enjoyed their pizza. We were able to provide a slice to all students who wanted one! It was also great to see families out at the kindergarten information evening along with members of the kindergarten team. There’s still time to register students for kindergarten, if you have not yet had the chance.

It was another great week at Carson Grove. Students enjoyed learning about Inuit games with Stranger from the Inuuqatigiit Centre. We saw some students playing the games on the school yard throughout the week. Grade 3 to 5 classes also had the chance to start skating this week before the weather warmed up. It was nice to see families come to school on Friday afternoon to take advantage of the free clothing store. Due to the weather, it will continue on Monday. The free clothing giveaway is still happening today. With the bad weather, today’s free clothing store will continue on Monday, January 29th from 9am to 3pm.

On Friday, January 26th from 9 am to 3 pm, we will have gently used clothing and winter clothes available for families. Please come to the school gym from 9am to 3pm and take home whatever clothing you and your family needs.

Are your kids up to date with their routine childhood vaccines? Ottawa Public Health will be holding an Immunization Clinic at Carson Grove Elementary School on Tuesday January 16, 2024 from 1:30 to 7:00pm.

We know that some Carson Grove families may have been planning to attend the Gloucester Open House yesterday as they have children currently in grade 8. Since the "Welcome to High School" evening was cancelled due to weather, it has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 6th from 6 to 8pm.

Carson Grove ES News Update - Weeks of Dec. 25th and Jan. 1st (Holiday Edition) Our five Spirit Days made for an exciting week. It was also very nice to see so many family and community members at our holiday concert! The students did a great job with their presentations! This week, we also had our new flagpole installed. It looks great!

It’s the last week of school left before the Winter Break. The last day of school is Friday, December 22nd and school will start again on Monday, January 8th. We hope that you and your family have a safe and happy Winter Holiday!

December is moving along very quickly. We only have two weeks of school left before the Winter Break. The last day of school is Friday, December 22nd and school will start again on Monday, January 8th. The school photos went very well this past Tuesday. There will be a retake day for students who were absent. We will give you an update once we know the date. The photos will likely be ready by late January. Carson Grove School Council will be hosting a Family Movie Night on Friday, December 1st from 6 to 8pm. An adult family member must stay for the entire movie to supervise their child (or children). Students can wear their favourite sports team’s colours or clothing (hat, shirt, jersey, etc.). The end of fall / beginning of winter weather is here! Please be sure that your child comes to school ready to play outdoors. The school does have some winter clothes for students to use. It was really nice to see families out for our Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, November 10th. Students and staff did a great job with the presentations. Last week was another amazing week at Carson Grove. Students had a great time with Halloween and Black and Orange Spirit Day. The cold and snowy weather was a big reminder about wearing warm clothes to school. Please be sure to send your child with a hat, gloves or mittens, coat, boots, and snow pants. Please contact the school office if you need any cold-weather items. There are some important dates to note this week. Our Remembrance Day ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 10th. Families are welcome to attend. Some Carson Grove families and staff will celebrate Diwali on Sunday, November 12th. If your family is celebrating, may the festival of lights light up your home with happiness, laughter, prosperity, and health. November 6th to 11th is Treaties Recognition Week. This annual time honours the importance of treaties as we learn more about treaty rights and relationships. We had a wonderful week at Carson Grove. The falling leaves continue to offer new opportunities for learning and play on the school yard. It was also really great to have community partners from the Orleans Rotary Club visit Carson Grove to present our grade 3s with picture dictionaries. Lastly, students did a wonderful job with the final fire drill practice and the lockdown drill. Being well-prepared for an emergency is very important! We have now been back at school for a well over a month. It’s amazing to see how well our students have done with the new routines.It was nice to see so many families out for the Meet the Staff evening last Wednesday. Thank you again to Ottawa City Councilor Tim Tierney and his team for the hot dog BBQ! Congratulations to our Junior Soccer teams who represented Carson Grove very well at last week’s regional tournaments! A big thank you to Ms. Wade, Mr. Thomas, Ms. Langdon, and the community volunteers. As a staff, our thoughts and well wishes are with all of our community members who may have been impacted by the recent tragic global situations with the earthquakes in Afghanistan and the conflict in the Israel-Gaza region. On Friday, Carson Grove educators learned and planned together about the importance of creating the best learning conditions possible for all students, literacy instruction, and mathematics instruction. For all families who celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend, we have that you had a very Happy Thanksgiving! Monday is a holiday. School starts again on Tuesday, Oct. 10th. Carson Grove marked the National Day (and Week) for Truth and Reconciliation last week. Many students and staff wore orange on Friday to show their commitment to the ongoing learning around the impact of the residential school system. Please read more for updates on Class Balancing changes especially for Ms. Grant’s R12A and Ms. Streamer’s R23A. The first day with the new classes will be Tuesday, October 10th. There is also information about Islamic Heritage Month and our Carson Grove School Council. A reminder that October 6th is a Professional Activity Day for teachers and there will be no school for students on this day.

We completed another great week of school at Carson Grove! It was great to see how excited everyone was to participate in the Terry Fox assembly and walk. There are very important updates this week about Class Balancing (changes), Dental Screening, Transportation and Drop offs/Pick-ups. Days of awarenes and recognition this week are September 27th Rowan’s Law Day (concussion safety) and National Day for Truth and Reconciliaton September 30th, recognized at school on September 29th. We are looking for about 6 or 7 family members to join our school council. School council meets in the evening at school about 4 to 6 times a year.

Our first four days of school were great! Students are doing well as they learn the routines at school and make friends. Everyone has been very welcoming of new students and staff members. Please see below for Media Permission form information and Bus updates.

On March 28th, parents and guardians of kindergarten to grade 2 students joined a SATE Literacy Session providing practical literacy tools to help build children’s reading, writing, and oral language skills.
