Carson Grove ES News - Week of Jan. 29th

It was another great week at Carson Grove.  Students enjoyed learning about Inuit games with Stranger from the Inuuqatigiit Centre.  We saw some students playing the games on the school yard throughout the week.  Grade 3 to 5 classes also had the chance to start skating this week before the weather warmed up.

It was nice to see families come to school on Friday afternoon to take advantage of the free clothing store.  Due to the weather, it will continue on Monday.  Please remember that the school almost always has some winter outerwear and other clothes available. Call the school to let us know if you ever need anything and we’ll do our best to help.

Wednesday, January 31st, 6pm - New to Kindergarten 2024 Info Night

Carson Grove ES will be hosting an information session on Wednesday, January 31st at 6:00pm in the school library.  Please share this date and time with any neighbours, friends, or family in our school area.

Register for Kindergarten

Families with a child who will be four years old by December 31, 2024 can visit the OCDSB website to register them for Kindergarten.  You can also come to Carson Grove between 9:30am and 3:30pm daily to register in person.

Pizza Day at Carson Grove is Friday, February 2nd - Forms Due Monday, January 29th (Extended)

We will be having a Pizza Day on Friday, February 2nd.  The Forms were due back at school by Thursday, January 25th, but with the bus cancellations we will accept them by tomorrow.  You can also click here to download and print it at home.

Slices of cheese pizza will be served and cost $2 each.  You are welcome to send a donation so students who would like a slice get one.  School council will also be helping with this.

Gluten-free crust and dairy-free cheese are also available for students with special dietary needs.

January 27: International Holocaust Remembrance Day

International Holocaust Remembrance Day honours and remembers the over six million Jews murdered and countless other victims of the Holocaust. Learning the lessons from our past is essential to shaping a more inclusive future, free of antisemitism and hate. Learn more about International Holocaust Remembrance Day on the OCDSB website

January 29: National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia

On January 29th, 2017, a tragic Islamophobic attack took place at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City where a gunman killed 6 worshipers and seriously injured 19 more. In 2022 January 29th was proclaimed the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia. All are welcome to wear a green square on their clothing in solidarity with the Muslim community and to show hope for a future without hate. Read more on the OCDSB website.

Joke or Riddle of the Day!

A “Joke or Riddle of the Day'' is featured daily on the morning announcements.  There are two ways to share a possible joke/riddle of the day: Students will be able to pass along jokes/riddles at school in class using a Chromebook; or, they can suggest one with help from home by clickinghere and completing a quick Google Form.  Based on the overwhelming response levels in the past, not all jokes/riddles are used during the announcements.  We do our best to find ones that match the time of the year and also try to make selections from a variety of classes.
