Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of October 30th

We had a wonderful week at Carson Grove.  The falling leaves continue to offer new opportunities for learning and play on the school yard.  It was also really great to have community partners from the Orleans Rotary Club visit Carson Grove to present our grade 3s with picture dictionaries.  Lastly, students did a wonderful job with the final fire drill practice and the lockdown drill.  Being well-prepared for an emergency is very important!

Friday, November 3rd is a PA Day - No School for Students

This Friday, November 3rd is a PA Day.  The school is closed for students.

Reminder: Halloween / Wear Black and Orange Day at Carson Grove - Tuesday, October 31st

Here are some expectations about Halloween / Black and Orange Spirit Day at Carson Grove:

-A culture is not a costume.  Please avoid costumes that mimic traditional attire, stereotype, misrepresent, or make fun of an ethnic, religious, racial, or gender group.

-Students should come to school wearing their costumes.

-Keep costumes simple and be sure that they can be taken on and off independently. For example, the one piece jumpsuit-style costumes are very challenging for students to remove when going to the washroom, especially for our youngest students.

-Instead of wearing a costume, wear orange and/or black if a costume is “too much for school” or if your family does not dress in costumes for Halloween.

-Include daily-use face masks in costume designs.

-Leave extra costume accessories at home.  Items that need to be held in a hand or worn on heads, including full masks, are a bit too much for school.

-As a Kindergarten to grade 5 school, we ask that very scary costumes or makeup should only be worn at home in the evening.

-Be allergy aware.  Please do not send in class treats or goody bags for classmates.  The thought is appreciated, but these items from home are not permitted at school.

Please contact the office or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or need some clarification.

Halloween Treats at Nutrition Break

It’s quite expected to see a treat or two in students’ lunches this week.  Please be sure to look at the ingredients before sending anything to school with your child.  There is a student (or several students) in our school with a severe life-threatening food allergy to peanuts and nuts (anaphylaxis).  This is a medical condition that causes a severe reaction to specific foods and can result in death within minutes.  Although this may or may not affect your child’s class directly, please continue to only send food to school that is free from peanuts or nut products. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
