Carson Grove News Week of September 22
Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of September 22nd
We had another great week of school at Carson Grove! It is great to see everyone so excited about the Terry Fox assembly and walk this coming week. Part of that excitement is building because of the grade 3 to 5 cross country running team practices at recess. Many of our students are looking forward to participating in the regional cross country meet on October 10th.
We also had fun with Dot Spirit Day on Monday. There was a lot of creative fun on display!
Students and staff have now completed a lockdown practice and three fire drills. We learned the importance of making safe choices when faced with an emergency situation.
Monday, September 29th is a PA Day
Monday, September 29th is a PA day for all OCDSB elementary and secondary schools. There is no school for students.
Terry Fox Walk and Assembly - Guest Speaker for Grades 3 to 5
On Thursday, September 25th, students at Carson Grove will take part in an assembly and Terry Fox walk to learn more about Terry Fox and support cancer research. September 26th will be the rain date for the walk. On Thursday morning at 10:30 am, Grade 3 to 5 students will join a Google Meet with an Ontario student named Euan Bingham to learn about his connection to the Terry Fox Foundation at such a young age.
We will also be collecting funds for the Terry Fox Foundation so please consider our school’s fundraising drive.
For the week of the Terry Fox Run, we are encouraging students to once again bring in a small donation. This year, we are asking students to bring in…
- a nickel ($0.05) on Monday (Sept. 22nd)
- a dime ($0.10) on Tuesday (Sept. 23rd)
- a quarter ($0.25) on Wednesday (Sept. 24th)
- a loonie or toonie ($1.00 or $2.00) on Thursday or Friday (Sept. 25th or 26th)

Rowan’s Law Day - September 24th
The last Wednesday of each September has been legislated as a day to raise awareness about concussion safety. Rowan’s Law was named for Rowan Stringer, a student at John McCrae Secondary School in Ottawa, who died in the spring of 2013. Rowan's Law Day raises awareness about concussions and concussion safety. It is important to learn how to play and train safely, how to recognize the signs of a concussion, and how to carefully plan the return to school, work, and play after a concussion. We will be looking at this important issue throughout the year as a part of our health and physical education programming. Click here to view Rowan’s Law resources.
