Carson Grove News Week of April 14

Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of April 14th

With spring weather coming soon, proper clothing (including splash pants, rubber boots, and light coats) is really important. Dressing in layers and sending students to school with some extra clothes/socks (if your child is the adventurous type when it comes to puddles and mud) are keys to students feeling comfortable in and out of school. On very sunny, warm days, hats, sunglasses, and a layer of sunscreen (ideally applied at home, for now) are also good ideas.

Long Weekend - No School April 18th to April 21st

There is a four day long weekend coming up at the end of the week. Schools are closed from Friday, April 18th to Monday, April 21st. School starts again on Tuesday, April 22nd. Happy Easter (in advance) for all who are celebrating!

SAVE the DATE: May 15th - Carson Grove ES Community Celebration and Potluck

We will be having a community party from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 15th. There will be a potluck meal, games, and activities for the whole family. Buses from the Pineview and Donald St. areas will be available. Stay tuned for more information!

Elementary Program Review Update

On April 3rd, the OCDSB released a revised proposal for the Elementary Program Review. These changes were made as a result of feedback received from more than 10,000 parents, caregivers, staff, students and community members during our recent consultations.

The proposed changes include revisions to boundaries and grade configurations, reduced student movement, development of a process to consider grandparenting exceptions and retention of more Specialized Program Classes.

Visit Engage OCDSB to read the report, view the revised proposed school locator and boundary maps, and learn about what we heard through our consultation process.

In the revised proposal, Carson Grove would still transition to Kindergarten to grade 6 with Enhanced English and French Immersion, effective September 2026. The boundary changes from the original proposal are virtually identical.

In order to ensure there is an opportunity for the public to provide feedback on the revised plan, we have extended the consultation period. We are running an online survey to gather feedback on the revised proposal. The survey will be open until April 24th at 11:59 pm. An additional opportunity is being scheduled on April 22nd for delegations specifically on aspects of the revised proposal.

The final recommendations are tentatively scheduled to be presented at the May 6th Committee of the Whole, for approval at a Special Board meeting on May 13th, 2025.
