Carson Grove News Week of October 14th
Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of October 14th
We have now been back at school for a well over a month. It’s amazing to see how well our students have done with the new routines. Many of them are experts! Way to go! Students who moved to new classes last week are also settling in nicely. Our students do a wonderful job when welcoming other students who join their classes for the first time!
It was nice to see so many families out for the Meet the Staff evening last Wednesday. Thank you again to Ottawa City Councilor Tim Tierney and his team for the hot dog BBQ! There are a lot of smiles and bucket loads of ketchup used!
Congratulations to our two soccer teams who represented the school very well at Thursday’s regional soccer tournament. All of the players tried their best and showed great respect for the game! Thank you to our coaches, Mrs. Clyde and Mr. Thomas!
On Friday, we had a full school cross country meet. Dozens of students from each grade ran the course in the fields behind our school while the whole school cheered them on. What a great show of school spirit! Thank you to Ms. Rooke and other educators for their work to get everything organized!
No School on Monday, October 13th - Thanksgiving Holiday
For all families who celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend, we hope that you have a very Happy Thanksgiving! There is no school on Monday. We will see everyone back on Tuesday, October 14th.
Wednesday, October 15th is Student Photo Day
Again this year, we have partnered with Ottawa Technical Secondary School (OTSS) for our school photos. On Wednesday, October 15th, senior OTSS students and their photography teacher will come to Carson Grove to take student photos and class photos. They will then prepare the photos for us to print on photo paper. A page of prints will be available at no charge for all students sometime in the coming months. Another photo date will be announced in the future for any students who are away on Wednesday. The photo background will be white so please try to avoid sending your child(ren) in white clothes.
Halloween / Wear Black and Orange Day at Carson Grove - Friday, October 31st
Here is how we’re celebrating Halloween / Black and Orange Spirit Day at Carson Grove:
- Students should come to school wearing their costumes.
- Keep costumes simple and be sure that they can be taken on and off independently. For example, the one piece jumpsuit-style costumes are very challenging for students to remove when going to the washroom, especially for our youngest students.
- Instead of wearing a costume, wear orange and/or black if a costume is “too much for school” or if your family does not dress in costumes for Halloween.
- Leave extra costume accessories at home. Items that need to be held in a hand or worn on heads, including full masks, are a bit too much for school.
- As a Kindergarten to grade 5 school, we ask that very scary costumes or makeup should only be worn at home in the evening.
- Be allergy aware. Please do not send in class treats or goody bags for classmates. The gesture is appreciated, but these items from home are not permitted at school.
Please contact the office or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or need some clarification.
