Carson Grove News Week of May 5

Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of May 5th

It was another great week at Carson Grove. With the warm weather, the City of Ottawa play structure is now open. Students are learning about rules and expectations for the structure before classes start to use it at recess this coming week.

Twin Day Spirit Day was a lot of fun on Friday. It was neat to see how different students, classes, and staff members creatively dressed alike! Thank you to Ms. Neu and the student-led Spirit Day Committee for another spirit-filled day!

Mental Health Week takes place from May 5th to 11th. This year's theme, "Unmasking Mental Health," from the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), reminds us of our responsibility to stop the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction. Students will be learning more about mental health all week at Carson Grove.

May is Asian and South Asian Heritage Month

Did you know that May is Asian and South Asian Heritage Month in Canada? It's a time for all Canadians to celebrate and reflect on the extensive and remarkable history of Asian Canadians from East Asia, Southern Asia, Western, Central and Southeast Asia, as well as their vital contributions to Canada's progress and prosperity.

We also want to take this time to acknowledge the historical hardships endured by Asian Canadians and the discrimination they still face today. It is important for all of us to work together to combat stereotypes and challenge anti-Asian racism. By speaking out against hateful language or actions, reporting incidents of discrimination are important steps to take to challenge anti-Asian racism.  Remember that even small actions can make a big difference in creating a more welcoming  and safe school.

May is Jewish Heritage Month

Jewish Heritage Month is a time for all Canadians to learn about the history, contributions, and culture of Canadians of Jewish heritage who have made significant impacts in communities across the country. We acknowledge and celebrate the rich cultural and historical legacy and wonderful contributions to literature, art, science and philosophy.

As we celebrate Jewish Heritage Month, it's important for us to not only learn about the culture and contributions of Jewish Canadians but also to take action against antisemitism..

We want to encourage you to take action against antisemitism by speaking out against hateful language or actions, reporting incidents of discrimination, and educating yourselves and others about the harmful effects of antisemitism.  By doing so, we can help make our school and our community more welcoming and safe for everyone.
