News Sept. 16
Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of Sept. 16th
We had another great week at Carson Grove. Students and staff are settling into routines nicely. Everyone is doing a great job being kind and welcoming to all as the year gets started. Students have really enjoyed playing with the new recess sports equipment that was purchased in the spring with the support of our school council!
In last week’s update, we mistakenly included Corey Stone on our staff list as chief custodian. Mr. Corey, as the students call him, is now the acting chief custodian at a high school in the west end. Please join me in welcoming Brad Larabie as our new chief custodian. Sorry about that, Mr. Brad!
Dropping Off and Picking Up at School
When picking up or dropping off your child at bus times (before and after school), please do not enter the school parking lot. Instead, be sure to park across the street in the parking area and walk your child safely to the school property.
Terry Fox Walk and Assembly
On Tuesday, September 24th, students at Carson Grove will take part in an assembly and Terry Fox walk to learn more about Terry Fox and support cancer research. September 26th will be the rain date for the walk.
We will also be collecting funds for the Terry Fox Foundation so please consider sending a loonie or toonie to school. You can also support our student’s fundraising efforts and donate today at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/CarsonGroveESOttawa #terryfoxschoolrun #nomatterwhat @theterryfoxfoundation
Thursday, September 19th is Powley Day
Powley Day marks the most important Métis Rights recognition since the days of Louis Riel. It is celebrated every September 19th to acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of the Powley family and the landmark decision in R. v. Powley [September 19, 2003].
Friday, September 27th is a PA Day
Friday, September 27th is a PA day for all OCDSB elementary and secondary schools. There is no school for students.
Student Accident Insurance
Creating a caring and safe environment for our students is our top priority. Unfortunately, despite all reasonable precautions being taken, accidents can still happen. Some injuries may result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans and caregivers become responsible for these expenses.
The OCDSB does not provide student accident insurance. Caregivers are encouraged to consider purchasing accident insurance or student accident insurance for incidents that may not be covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or any additional medical plans they have.
Student accident insurance is available for purchase on a voluntary basis. Caregivers may apply online at insuremykids.com or call 1-800-463-5437. The accident insurance coverage options range from $17.00/year to $33.00/year. All plans provide 24/7 coverage and a variety of important accident benefits (benefit limits differ based on plan selected). If you have any questions, please call Jones DesLauriers Ottawa (formerly Binks Insurance Brokers) directly at 613-226-1350.
