Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of Feb. 13th

Week of February 13th News Update
We had a quiet end to our week with two bus cancellations in a row. The school remains open when buses and vans are not running. Please be sure to always call in to report your child’s absence. Our students’ safety is our top priority! We call to make sure that they are safe at home.
Four Day Weekend Coming Up
Friday, February 17th is a PA Day and Monday, February 20th is Family Day. The school will be closed for students. Classes will start again on Tuesday, February 21st.
Student Photo Next Steps
The Gloucester High School (GHS) Photo Club visited Carson Grove this past Wednesday to take student photos. They have started to prepare the photos for us to print on photo paper. A page of prints will be available at no charge for all students near the start of March. We will be looking into how to take the pictures of any students who were away for photo day.
Valentine’s Day at Carson Grove - Have a Heart Day and Red, White, and Pink Spirit Day on Tuesday, February 14th
Carson Grove staff will be organizing fun ways to show kindness, caring, and appreciation for Valentine’s Day. As a school, we will be having a Red, White, and Pink Spirit Day on Tuesday, February 14th. Please mark your calendars!
Have a Heart Day is a child and youth-led reconciliation event that brings together caring Canadians to help ensure First Nations children have the opportunity to grow up safely at home, get a good education, be healthy, and be proud of who they are. Carson Grove students will also be marking this day on Tuesday.
Students may exchange Valentine’s Day cards. If you choose to participate, it’s best to send the cards without individual names so handing out the cards is easier for your child. Sending a set of 24 cards would work for all classes, with the exception of Mr.s Thomas’ that would need 25. Students may also bring a personal treat or food for celebration, but there should be no sharing of food or exchange of treats, please.
Register NOW for Kindergarten
Families with a child who will be four years old by December 31, 2023 can visit the OCDSB website to register them for Kindergarten. You can also come to Carson Grove between 9:30am and 3pm daily to register in person.
Class Reorganization Update
We are continuing to work as a staff to prepare for the new school organization. Timetables, schedules, and routines are being modified to make the transition as smooth as possible for all involved. In some cases, students will need to change classes. We will share any staffing and student class placement changes with families by Thursday, February 16th.
For classes where the class lists will change and students are moved to a new homeroom group, staff will carefully consider the learning and social needs of each student involved. New classes and timetables are still on track to start on Tuesday, February 21st. Please contact the school office if you have any questions.
Ottawa-Carleton Virtual (OCV) Elementary and Secondary Schools - Registration
With planning underway for September 2023, OCV Elementary and Secondary schools will soon be accepting registrations for the 2023-2024 school year. Registration will be open from January 31 to February 14, 2023. Learn more on the OCDSB website.
Joke or Riddle of the Day!
A “Joke or Riddle of the Day'' is featured daily on the morning announcements. There are two ways to share a possible joke/riddle of the day: Students will be able to pass along jokes/riddles at school in class using a Chromebook; or, they can suggest one with help from home by clicking here and completing a quick Google Form. Based on the overwhelming response levels in the past, not all jokes/riddles are used during the announcements. We do our best to find ones that match the time of the year and also try to make selections from a variety of classes.
