Carson Grove ES News Update - Week of October 21st

We had a great week at school!  It was quite cold some days.  On cold days, please make sure that your child comes to school ready to go outside with a coat, hat, mittens, and shoes or boots with closed toes.  The office does have some cold weather clothing available.  Please let us know if your child needs some to use.  This coming week will be warm again, but the cold weather will be back soon!

Congratulations to our Junior Soccer teams who represented Carson Grove very well at last week’s regional tournaments!  A big thank you to Ms. Erin, Mr. Thomas, and Ms. Berg who supported the team!

Tuesday, October 22nd is Student Photo Day

Again this year, we have partnered with Ottawa Technical Secondary School (OTSS) for our school photos.  On Tuesday, October 22nd, senior OTSS students and their photography teacher will come to Carson Grove to take student photos and class photos.  They will then prepare the photos for us to print on photo paper.  A page of prints will be available at no charge for all students sometime in the coming months.  Another photo date will be announced in the future for any students who are away on Tuesday.  The photo background will be white so please try to avoid sending your child(ren) in white clothes.

Lockdown Practice

Our school will be holding its fall lockdown practice this coming week.  Staff will be preparing students for the practice ahead of time but the actual time it takes place will be a surprise.

Halloween / Wear Black and Orange Day at Carson Grove - Thursday, October 31st

Here is how we’re celebrating Halloween / Black and Orange Spirit Day at Carson Grove:

  • Students should come to school wearing their costumes.

  • Keep costumes simple and be sure that they can be taken on and off independently. For example, the one piece jumpsuit-style costumes are very challenging for students to remove when going to the washroom, especially for our youngest students.

  • Instead of wearing a costume, wear orange and/or black if a costume is “too much for school” or if your family does not dress in costumes for Halloween

  • Incorporate daily use face masks into costume designs

  • Leave extra costume accessories at home.  Items that need to be held in a hand or worn on heads, including full masks, are a bit too much for school.

  • As a Kindergarten to grade 5 school, we ask that very scary costumes or makeup should only be worn at home in the evening.

  • Be allergy aware.  Please do not send in class treats or goody bags for classmates.  The gesture is appreciated, but these items from home are not permitted at school.

Please contact the office or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or need some clarification.
